believe me, 4 pounds is heavier than 15 pounds when you're just 5'1". My good friend, "P" says he gained 15 lbs since the holidays, but looking at his around5'7" frame, its so hard to believe what he's saying. it hardly shows!!!! but just glancing at my middle girth would readily show what 4 pounds can do to such a short and stocky body.
all those food intake before, during, and after the holidays had taken its toll. face it, you are now longer a sprightly, young thing. even if they say 40 is the new thirty, in reality, your body has a way of betraying you. you may look young but your body says otherwise "sob sob sob". i have no complaints about growing old because all of us are going in that direction, yet, when you wake up in the morning with a sore ankle or wobbly knees due to too much uric acid, it's a reality check.
the chocolate cakes, the chips, the oh so delicious steak that you indulged yesterday always find their way to your love handles, your cellulite, *uggggggghhhhhhh*
exercising is easier said than done, i always find excuses to put them off, oh gosh

WALA LANG

I never dreamed that i would be a lawyer. I wanted to be a writer. In college, i had this cozy dream of being a writer living in Baguio, why Baguio- because it's cold and it has lots of trees. I had this picture in my mind of me living in a cottage surrounded by a lot of pine trees, working as a teacher in the morning (hey!!!! i have to earn a living, everybody knows that writers start out struggling before they make it good), driving a yellow volkswagen beetle (the cheapest car then and maybe now, the old model, that is), and typing my masterpiece in cozy little cottage in the afternoon.Although none of this happened even remotely, still, i look back at that dream and smile to myself whenever i see that picture in my mind.
I used to read a lot of novels. I love the way the words in my books would take me to places i have not seen; describe them in such detail that it seemed i have been transplanted to that place. I was into spy novels - John Le Carre and i imagined myself to be a spy. It was an escapist route to my humdrum existence. My parents are shop keepers. After school, all of us children who are still at home are required to tend the store, i hated it. i would find excuses not to be at the store but my father always see thru them. Reading books gave me another life away from watching the store. I used to think that i know it all because of the books that i read, i thought that the experiences of the characters were my experiences too, but nothing beats the school of the hard knocks of life. Reading books and living in the real world is SOOOOOOOOOO DIFFERENT. You could not turn back the page to relive your past, you just hope that you have learned from it so that you won't make the same mistakes.

PAG GUSTO,MAY PARAAN, PAG AYAW, MAY DAHILAN
As I was complaining for the nth time about my weight, my brother, Wyndell, told me to stop whining and do something about it. I told him i don't have the time to exercise and gave him a lot of excuses (which now sounds so hollow in my ears), he replied - PAG GUSTO, MAY PARAAN, PAG AYAW, MAY DAHILAN.
Ahah!!!! I'm a lot older than him but Wyndell's nuggets of wisdom and his maturity never cease to amaze me.
But still i resisted, it was december when we had that conversation and as usual, i indulged in epicurean delight and turned a blind eye to my ever expanding girth. It didn't help that the fashionable clothes at the moment are not too fitting, uuuuuuggggggghhhhhhhh and if my pants seemed too tight, i just leave a button open and hope that the zipper holds, hahahhahaha
I promised myself that by January, i will embark on a diet and exercise regimen.
Jan 1 - watched my food intake but had dinner at Hongkong Resto at Robinson's, had a bowl of soup, vegetable rice, beef with brocolli, and steamed fish, sipped a bit of soda from Kyla's glass (he he he)
Jan 2 - rainy day and first day of work so i had the excuse not to hit the gym
Jan 3 - woke up late but managed to drag myself out of the warm comfort of my bed, and finally, after a long absence, went back to President's Gym. Still, i didn't go the distance and just did cardio exercises, ate a huge slice of rum cake baked by our good friend, Mia
Jan 4 - gave my muscles a break
Jan 5 - worked from 10:00 am to 4:00 then hit the gym again, phhew,,,,, i'm getting the hang of this, but had a sinful lunch of fried chicken and cream of squash soup with my best friend, juvy!!!!! i couldn't keep my eyes off the calorie counter at the recumbent and sadly, no matter how hard i pedalled, the calorie counter was so slow to register points in my favor
Jan 6 - rest day
Jan 7 - busy day at the office (do i hear excuses again????)
Jan 8 - hit the gym and saw some acquaintances, hmmmm, maybe they also have the same new year's resolution as i have
Tomorrow? i might go to Mai Pao and inquire about their south beach menu

fresh start
3:30 pm - As I gaze out of my office window, i see rain drops on the concrete ledge; people scampering for the safety of dry covers; the leaves of that huge tree at the corner of the plaza constantly blowing in the rain and slight wind; jeepneys ferrying their passengers. Farther along i see the waters of the sea, that is, the ones remaining unobstructed by the gigantic SM edifice but that is another story. It is indeed a gloomy and cloudy day. But it seems to me that the rain is cleansing our city of 2007's dusts... What is in store for us this 2008? Life is so uncertain.....

January 2, 2008 is a dark rainy day, doesn't look quite an auspicious start for my first working day for 2008, on the upside, it gave me an excuse to wear my gray "bolero" from M&S and my pink Melissa sandals. Oh happy days!!!!!
